The 30th annual Stabilizing Indigenous Languages Symposium (SILS) was hosted by the NEȾOLṈEW̱ Research Partnership at Sŋéqə ʔéʔləŋ (Sngequ House – UVIC) on the territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən speaking peoples. Centered around the theme Kinship, Connections & Leadership in Indigenous Language Revitalization, the symposium fostered a rich exchange of innovative ideas towards advancing language revitalization efforts.

Highlighting discussions by leading scholars and practitioners in Indigenous language revitalization, focusing on supporting Indigenous adults in becoming new speakers of their languages.

This project created an online space to share information on Indigenous language education policies in Canada. It aims to engage with others who are interested in understanding what policies exist that either support or hinder immersion education for Indigenous languages.

When the pandemic hit, it initially threatened to halt language activities; however, Indigenous communities did what they always have done in the face of danger and adversity: adapt.

As part of the inaugural Aspiration Research Cluster grant program at UVic, Dr. Onowa McIvor assembled an interdisciplinary team to explore the creation of a Centre for Indigenous Language Revitalization Research to facilitate capacity-building resources and support for local language reclamation initiatives.

Working in collaboration with CCUNESCO, Dr. Onowa McIvor compiled a guide that provides current information about Indigenous languages in Canada and a list of ways you can help support them.

NEȾOLṈEW̱ is an Indigenous-led, Indigenous-governed, relationship-based national partnership of scholars, community leaders, educators, activists, and allies working at the heart of Indigenous language revitalization (ILR) in Canada — formed to engage in positive action through collaborative research.
